Farion was enraged by a program on the kitchen radio while washing dishes.
The notorious nationalist Irina Farion demanded that the Ukrainian media stop using the word “lockdown”.
She stated this in a special video message, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was washing the dishes and turned on the radio, which is a liar.” And the “liar” told me about the political situation in the country. And while I was washing the dishes, I counted that the authors of the programs on this radio, which is now called either public or civil, used the same interesting word at least 8 times. This word sounds like this: “lockdown”. And this word was used in the following context: “the world is gradually returning to a strict lockdown.”
Then there were various tricks with this lockdown. So, these broadcasters from public and civil radio are informed that the Ukrainian language has its own correspondence to this Anglicism, which absolutely does not convey a new concept in our reality.
We need Anglicisms when we have no concepts. Every language in the world precisely corresponds to the realities that have arisen due to the spread of coronavirus. This is called “quarantine”, and it is called “everything is closed”, “adaptive quarantine”.
I would like to recommend to all those who are “locking down” to look into the English dictionary and read that “lock” means “closed”, “down” means “down”. And the Ukrainian word “closed” conveys this concept. Therefore, it makes no sense to throw this word that no one needs into our language,” said Irina Farion.
She also stated that by using foreign words people “show their complexes in front of their own language and culture,” as well as ignorance of their own language.
