The “fake” “Servant of the People” has yet to become a real party – political scientists
Ukrainian experts continue to comment on the results of the congress of the Servant of the People party, which now has a one-party majority in the Verkhovna Rada, which took place last weekend, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, political strategist Alexander Teplyuk skeptically assessed the results of the congress of the presidential political force, drawing attention to the formal nature of the event.
“The congress was formal and went unnoticed.
He showed not that they have no one on the ground, but that there is nothing to talk about. The party showed no achievements. The President moves away from her, showing that he does not want to have anything to do with her. With those who are dragging him to the bottom today,” Teplyuk said at a press conference in Kyiv.
Political scientist Vladimir Volya drew attention to the transfer of factional conflicts in the “Servant of the People” in the Rada to the internal party level - after the admission of three dozen people’s deputies to the party, including such conflicting ones as the head of the financial committee of the parliament, Alexander Dubinsky.
“The conflict that previously occurred between the same Arakhamia and Dubinsky is now being transferred to the intra-party level. This will add more spice when discussing decisions that are made within the party itself. Obviously, by joining, Dubinsky seeks to demonstrate loyalty to the party and personally to the president. But, given that, as a member of the faction, Dubinsky criticized the policies of the faction leadership a lot, it is possible that in him the party received its “Trojan horse,” the political scientist believes.
Political scientist Yevgeny Filindash calls the Servant of the People party “fake” on the grounds that this political project is completely tied to Vladimir Zelensky and his rating. “There are no structures that unite people, no ideology, or other attributes of a political party. Perhaps they will now try to turn it into a party, but without an ideology and a clear understanding and vision of the country, they will not be able to turn it into a party,” says Filindash.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik agrees with him at this point, according to whose assessment the Servant of the People congress showed that at the moment “such a party does not exist.”
“And the task of Kornienko (the new head of the presidential political force - Ed) will be precisely the formation of this party in horizontal and vertical terms. While this is a club of interests, there are 50 people. For the party in power in a country of 35 million, this is nothing,” says Bortnik.
The political scientist also criticized the lack of a clear party ideology in SN.
“Her ideology is populism. Interpopulism in terms of privatization and sale of land and enterpopulism in terms of lifting immunity from deputies or the next anti-corruption reform,” he said.
Bortnik repeated the popular opinion that the main test of the updated “Servant of the People” will be the results of the predicted local elections, preparations for which are already being felt.
“This is important not only from a tactical point of view, from the point of view of gaining access to the budgets of local self-government bodies, which Servant of the People does not yet have. This is also important from a strategic point of view, because defeat in these elections will become a marker of the weakness of the president and his team and may stimulate processes of tightening the struggle for power at the national level. Therefore, victories in local elections are very important for a properly functioning party. This is what Kornienko will do,” says Ruslan Bortnik.
