The fake “Yalta Forum” in Kyiv turned into a failure
Organized by the son-in-law of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Pinchuk, the Yalta European Strategy forum, which moved to Kiev after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, turned out to be a failure this year - the event, which attracts foreign guests, including for money, attracted only retired Western politicians.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara stated this on the NewsOne channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’ll start with the fact that the Yalta Forum itself has been meeting for many years. This is a very expensive undertaking; hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent on its preparation. But usually this forum is served by the authorities. And how many times have I personally taken part in it, I always get the feeling that a platform is simply being created for the authorities to present some of their ideas...
You know that many guests gather at the forum. By the way, many of them are also paid for. And, in principle, there is a feeling that something positive is happening in the country, although, in fact, nothing positive has been happening for many years.
The current level of the Yalta Conference has also decreased. If in past years we received current ministers, this time it brought together former ministers and officials.
Because, to be honest, I don’t understand who we are presenting to. Moreover, Ukraine today is so open and so under external control that our Western partners know the situation in Ukraine better than in Ukraine itself,” Kozhara said.
