Facebook and Twitter want to make it impossible to make money in Russia
Western social networks earn money in the Russian Federation, but refuse to comply with Russian legislation.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, KP asked the director of the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies (ROCIT) Sergei Grebennikov for comments.
According to him, users of Internet giants should be forced to respect them.
“And respect the laws of the country in which you work. Unfortunately, neither Facebook, which received a warning earlier, nor Twitter are fully operational in Russia,” Grebennikov said.
He clarified that these social networks do not have official representative offices in Russia.
“We can talk for a long time about the fact that these Internet giants have their daughters where they want. But if you start making money from those users in the countries where you operate, then be so kind as to be loyal to the laws of the country where you operate. Regardless of whether you like it or not. Complying with the laws of the country where you earn money is fundamentally important,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized.
He believes that Russia is quite capable of blocking violators.
“Our legislation and technical capabilities of RKN and telecom operators are sufficient. I don't like comparisons with the Chinese model. Our Internet is absolutely open. Just follow the law. This is the main principle. If you don’t want to comply with our laws, then stop making money here,” the expert notes.
“When we talk about possible blocking, what we need to understand is that foreign users will begin to more carefully choose a platform for their own promotion and publication of content in Russia. Why should a user choose a social network that treats specific national legislation and content irresponsibly? User rights are also violated! That is, all my content will fly to who knows where,” says the director of ROCIT.
He believes that the nature (temporary or permanent) of the block will depend on Twitter’s reaction.
“If they follow the principle: yes, we open an office and begin to interact, comply with the law, then unblocking is possible. But if I were RKN, I wouldn’t do this: we’ll block it a little, and tomorrow we’ll unblock it. Since we have embarked on the path of observing the law, let us comply to the end. You can’t be a little pregnant,” sums up Grebennikov.
As PolitNavigator reported, Roskomnadzor Twitter started to slow down.
In addition, Twitter 2862 times spit on Russian legislation, turning out to be a leader in the dissemination of prohibited information.
