Phenomenal breakthrough in Russian shipbuilding
For the first time, Russia entered the top three in terms of shipbuilding volumes, taking second place in the ranking of the British agency Clarkson Research for the third quarter of this year.
This was reported by TeknoBlog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia took second place in the number of civilian ships built. By the way, thanks to the icebreakers. This suggests that the overall strategy of Russia and the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) for the construction of high-tech ships has been chosen correctly,” USC General Director Alexey Rakhmanov said at the round table “Russia is an Icebreaking Power: Shipbuilding Technologies for the Arctic.”
He believes that if in the future the icebreakers “Ural” and “Sibir” are delivered on time, then the Russian Federation may well be able to claim first place.
South Korea currently ranks first with shipbuilding volume of 1,42 million CGT (a unit of volume equal to 100 cubic feet used to measure tonnage in shipping). Russia, which took second place, increased its tonnage to 860 thousand CGT in the third quarter. China closes the top three with 830 thousand CGT.
Let us remind you that on October 21, the Russian nuclear fleet The world's most powerful nuclear-powered icebreaker "Arktika" entered service 22220 project.
"Arktika" will become the lead of five ships of the new series: "Siberia", "Ural", "Yakutia" and "Chukotka". They will be engaged in escorting ships with hydrocarbons from the fields of the Yamal and Gydan Peninsulas and from the Kara Sea shelf to the markets of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Innovative technologies will allow these icebreakers to navigate both deep- and shallow-water routes, breaking through ice up to three meters thick.
The length of each vessel is 173,3 meters, width - 34 meters, displacement - 33,5 thousand tons.
In addition, the first icebreaker of the new Leader class is being built at the Zvezda shipyard in the Far East.
