Readers have probably heard about the rallies that took place last weekend in the European Union, where participants demanded that their governments abandon their pro-American anti-Russian course, take neutrality on the conflict in Ukraine and come to an agreement with Moscow on gas.

The largest event was the demonstration in Prague. Roman Blaško, editor of the Czech publication Iportál24.cz, visited there and wrote a report about the rally for PolitNavigator.

The current social crisis in the Czech Republic (including energy, economic and food) is becoming increasingly acute. People came together en masse and on Saturday in Prague, at an anti-government demonstration on Wenceslas Square, they made it clear who is behind this crisis.

Responsibility for the current situation lies, of course, with the head of the Czech government. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala himself announced on CNN that the demonstration was “an action of pro-Russian forces.”

The square reacted to these words with laughter and whistles, and then people began chanting that they wanted the prime minister to resign. This word was spoken most often. Miroslav Ševčík, dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Prague University of Economics, took the stage and declared that Prime Minister Fiala was an idiot.

“Fiala, I’m not a Russian troll. Long before November 1989, I protested against the Russian occupation of this country. Fiala, you don't deserve to lead the republic! When someone does something wrong, we in Moravia say that he is stupid, drugged, or bribed.

Decide for yourself how much of this applies to Prime Minister Fiala and his ministers. Are they stupid, poorly educated, are they paid, or all these things?” – Shevchik asked from the stage.

The head of the Tricolor party, Zuzana Majerova, said that, according to media and police reports, between 50 and 000 people gathered at Wenceslas Square.

“And Czech Television, as usual, does not report anything. But there are many more of us here than 100000 people, and even on stage it’s absolutely crowded,” Majerova said about censorship.

Expert Vladimir Stepan, who has more than 30 years of experience in the energy sector, spoke at the demonstration.

“This government, in my opinion, aims to have the highest energy prices in all of Europe and, preferably, in the world. We have already achieved this in the electricity sector, we will lose the economy. The consequence of this is that if you paid 30 for gas, you will now pay 000; if you paid 200 for electricity, you will now pay up to 000 per year. In addition, the consequence of high prices is incredibly high inflation, which will deprive you of your savings. Finally, a new tax will be introduced,” Stepan listed.

He expressed confidence that the Czech economy is being driven into crisis in the interests of its “Western neighbors,” who will then be able to buy up companies of interest on the cheap.

“This is what high energy prices, inflation and taxes they are going to impose are for,” the speaker warned.

He added what the solution to the energy crisis could be:

“At the beginning of the year I said – send me to Russia, I will bring you cheap gas... Let them send me to Orban in Hungary, he has cheap gas, cheap electricity.”

Ivan Novesky, another energy expert, also criticized the government.

“In 1989 we were a gas superpower. We were also an energy superpower. We were completely self-sufficient. 32 years ago Vaclav Havel said that our country is not prospering, and we must say after 32 years that our country is dying. The energy industry is the circulatory system of industry. Without energy, this republic will perish. And that is why we are here today, because we believe that this must change,” he said.

General MEP Hynek Blaško (Freedom and Direct Democracy) was also invited to the stage and said, among other things:

“The government is shouting that we are at war and therefore we must sacrifice. We are not at war. We are just victims of your completely senseless warmongering. We want the state to be headed by leaders who are proud of their country, respect its citizens and are aware of their responsibility to them. Not henchmen who lick the highest bidder’s ass.”

The speakers also talked about taking matters into their own hands and, for example, creating a group of experts to normalize relations with the Russian Federation. Lawyer Jana Zvirtek Gamplova concluded:

“Wenceslas Square exploded with a huge demonstration. Peter Fiala, the people are against you!
