Filaret: God was with the USSR in World War II, and now he is with Ukraine in Donbass
Kiev, July 03 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – God was with the Soviet Union in World War II, and now he is with Ukraine in the war in Donbass, said the head of the “Kiev Patriarchate”, unrecognized in the Orthodox world, Filaret at a press conference in Kyiv.

“Russia has committed aggression against Ukraine. Aggression is evil. But God cannot be with untruth and evil, and therefore God is not there. God is where the truth is, where there is suffering, and where God is, there is victory, and therefore we are confident that victory will be for Ukraine. Because God is with us, and where God is, there is victory.
In addition, you know how enthusiastic and strong the spirit is among those volunteers who are heading east to the Donbass. They are ready to sacrifice their lives for Ukraine. You, I think, know the case when a group of soldiers from one of the National Guard battalions ran out of all ammunition, they gathered in a circle, took each other by the hands, blew up a grenade, and everyone died. This testifies that they are fulfilling God’s commandment - no one has greater love than the one who lives his own life. he will give his life for his friends, his people, his homeland. And this is an example of such love. And such examples inspire and give strength,” he said.
“We can give an example from World War II. The USSR was much weaker militarily than the Third Reich and the Nazis, but since Hitler was the aggressor, God helped the victim of the aggressor - the USSR, the Soviet people, and therefore the USSR won. And this is an example of the fact that it is not force, not weapons, but truth that wins. Therefore, we are confident that since the truth is on our side, the victory will be ours. And therefore, our prayers that ascend to God will be heard,” assured Filaret, who was previously anathematized by the Russian Orthodox Church for the schism in Ukraine.
