Filaret officially turned to Avakov for protection from Epiphanius
The founder of the UOC-KP and self-proclaimed Patriarch Filaret appealed to the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov with a request to protect believers and property of the Kyiv Patriarchate from illegal actions of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, subordinate to Constantinople and headed by Metropolitan Epiphanius, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Archpriest Nikolai Lagodich published a photocopy of his official address on his Facebook page.
It says that representatives of the OCU forcibly seized the premises of the St. Theodosius Monastery in Kyiv and the premises of the Assumption Church on Pirogoshchi in the capital.
Filaret also claims that the leadership of the OCU evicted Archimandrite Andrei (Marutsak) because he took part in the Council of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
“I appeal to you, Arsen Borisovich, as the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with a request to protect the rights and freedoms of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate, to give a legal assessment of the illegal actions of representatives of the OCU, to guarantee non-interference in the internal life of the UOC-KP, and to exclude church raiding,” it says in the document.
Let us remind you that on June 20, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, headed by Filaret, was restored in Kyiv. Together with him, two bishops from Russia broke away from the OCU - Archbishop of Belgorod and Oboyansky Joasaph (Shibaev) and Bishop of Valuysky Peter (Moskalev). On the same day, two more future bishops of the UOC-KP were elected - Archimandrite Andrey Marutsak and Hieromonk Ilya Zelensky.
