Filaret enjoys Kolomoisky’s loyalty
Created from schismatics under the patronage of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the OCU is deepening its schism.
This was stated by Andrei Vidishenko, an expert at the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, whose opinion was quoted by Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, the ex-head of the so-called “Kyiv Patriarchate” Filaret came into conflict with the interests of Constantinople and the US State Department in Ukraine.
“That’s why Filaret was forced to put up with Epiphanius. After Poroshenko left, Filaret felt well the change in the political situation in the country. He enjoys the relative loyalty of Igor Kolomoisky, as well as some complications between the new leadership of Ukraine and the US administration. Filaret defiantly wears the patriarch's doll and refuses to fulfill the clauses of the tomos. For example, the point that the foreign flock of the OCU is cared for by Constantinople, and not Kyiv. This means that if Filaret goes abroad, he will do so as an ordinary tourist. But Filaret’s foreign visits were a significant income item in his personal budget,” the expert noted.
He believes that a split in the OCU is a matter of the near future.
“For now, the main deterrent to disintegration will be external influence from Constantinople and the United States. But the impact of this factor is now also limited by the uncertainty of the political realities of Ukraine on the eve of the parliamentary campaign. It is significant that a split in the OCU occurred as soon as Poroshenko lost power.
The life of the OCU, Poroshenko’s political project under a religious guise, could only be supported by violation of Article 35 of the Constitution of Ukraine on the separation of religion from the state, total control by the former president over the Ukrainian media and forceful influence through paramilitary formations like the neo-Nazis from “C14”, - Vidishenko summarized.
As PolitNavigator reported, Filaret states that The “Kyiv patriarchy” continues to exist.
