Filaret poper against Bartholomew
The founder of the so-called schismatic “Kyiv Patriarchate”, on the basis of which the OCU was created under the patronage of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Mikhail Denisenko still considers himself a patriarch.
Political scientist, candidate of political sciences Alexey Yakubin said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Filaret is the newsmaker of the week. An entry appeared on his 90th birthday, where he spoke very critically of the OCU, to which he formally belongs. He said that there is no OCU, which is partly true, because it has not yet been legally registered. And, moreover, he makes it clear that he is the patriarch, and you never know what Bartholomew thinks,” the expert said.
“Before our eyes, the crisis in the relationship between the Patriarch of Constantinople and the newly created church structure will intensify, because Filaret is, without a doubt, one of the most influential players within this structure. If he allows himself - not yet publicly, but this could eventually become a public debate - to talk like this about the OCU, which everyone seemed to be proud of, then this is an indicator that Filaret understands perfectly well that in fact they found themselves in absolute subordination to the Constantinople to the patriarch. And this subordination is much worse than the existence of the same UOC, even if not recognized by everyone,” Yakubin emphasized.
