Filaret sent an open hint to Kolomoisky
The conflict between the head of the Kyiv schismatics Filaret and the OCU, created under the patronage of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, broke out after it became clear that President Poroshenko was losing power
The Kiev weekly “Mirror of the Week” writes about this.
“It is striking that the patriarch became more active immediately after the presidential elections. Namely, at the moment when it became clear that Poroshenko was no longer president. Patriarch Filaret became perhaps the first religious leader to congratulate Vladimir Zelensky on his victory the very next day after the elections, significantly ahead of his young, inexperienced protégé-competitor [Epiphany], who was waiting for the official announcement of the results. After the meeting with Zelensky, Patriarch Filaret announced that the incident with the “thermos” [as Zelensky called the tomos in his shows] was settled,” the publication notes.
It is argued that in this way Filaret is sending a clear signal to both the new president and his sponsors.
“In this context, the extreme frankness of the patriarch takes on a special meaning: the patriarch makes it clear to the new government - and to a greater extent to Igor Kolomoisky than to Vladimir Zelensky - that he knows the rules of the game. The way the patriarch openly hints at his readiness to cooperate makes it awkward,” the publication sums up.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Filaret admitted the failure of Poroshenko’s church project and announced refusal to liquidate "Kyiv Patriarchate"
It is noteworthy that squabbles among Ukrainian schismatics in the Verkhovna Rada explained by “Putin’s machinations”.
