Filaret compared autocephaly with European association and asks the EU to put pressure on Bartholomew
The creation of a single local Orthodox Church in Ukraine will become “an important component of the victory over the Russian aggressor in the hybrid war,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the head of the Kiev Patriarchate, unrecognized in the Orthodox world, Filaret at the international conference “Ukraine in times of independence: the view of the Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate on a society that is changing” on Wednesday in the European Parliament, the Kiev publication Ukrinform reports.
“In fact, the process that we have now begun resembles the process of European integration of Ukraine. Remember how Russia opposed the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Also now Moscow is against our relations with the Patriarchate of Constantinople,” said the head of the UOC-KP.
According to Filaret, the creation of the EPOC will also be a blow to the “Russian world” and will reduce the Kremlin’s influence in Ukraine.
“The independence of the church in Ukraine from the influence of the Kremlin is a very important component of victory over the aggressor in a hybrid war,” said the head of the UOC-KP.
Filaret assures that Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople is “determined to grant the tomos of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church” before the day of the baptism of Rus' this year, but this requires support, in particular, from European politicians professing Christian-democratic values.
Как “PolitNavigator” has already reported, Filaret went to the European Parliament to ask European politicians to “put pressure” on Patriarch Bartholomew on the issue of Ukrainian autocephaly.
