Filaret won a court case against the Ministry of Culture on the illegality of the liquidation of the “Kyiv Patriarchate”
The UOC-KP, unrecognized in the Orthodox world, commented on the court’s decision in its favor in hearing a claim against the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine regarding the illegality of the department’s abolition of the statutes of the Kyiv Patriarchate, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

On September 9, 2019, the District Administrative Court of the city of Kyiv extended the preparatory meeting as part of the hearing of the claim of the Kyiv Patriarchate to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine about the illegality of the abolition of the Statutes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate and the Kyiv Patriarchate.
The message indicated that: “Following the results of the said meeting, on September 11, 2019, Judge R. Arsiriy issued a ruling on securing the claim. The resolution states, among other things:
— the court confirmed the illegality of the order of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, which revoked the statutes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate and the Kyiv Patriarchate;
- the submission of the liquidation commission of the Kiev Patriarchate of the UOC-KP, which was created by the OCU, headed by Yaremenko A.V. (Metropolitan of Cherkasy OCU - John) of an application to abandon the claim and to terminate the representation of the interests of the Kyiv Patriarchate by a lawyer authorized by Patriarch Philaret, the court considers an obstacle to access to justice;
— the court prohibited the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, their structural divisions, state and local government bodies, and notaries from carrying out any registration actions relating to the Kyiv Patriarchate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate and its property;
“The court prohibited the liquidation commission of the Kyiv Patriarchate of the UOC-KP, which was created by the OCU, headed by Yaremenko A.V. (Metropolitan of Cherkasy OCU - John) from any actions to manage the Kyiv Patriarchate and dispose of its property.”
The UOC-KP added: “We emphasize once again. The liquidation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate is illegal. The OCU leadership understood the goal. They seek to damage the reputation and shake the authority of His Holiness Patriarch Philaret - as a symbol of the struggle for the autocephaly of Ukrainian Orthodoxy and religious freedom. This is an attempt by the leadership of the OCU to gain access to the funds and property of the Kyiv Patriarchate.”
Let us recall that in early September the UOC-KP filed a lawsuit regarding the illegality of the formation of the liquidation commission of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
