Filaret: Zelensky, save me! It was necessary to read the “tomos” more carefully
The head of the unrecognized “Kyiv Patriarchate” Filaret held another press conference in Kyiv today in protest against demands to liquidate his structure and join the OCU under the control of Istanbul.
“We received the tomos, but no one understood what was written in it. It spells out dependence on the Patriarch of Constantinople. Outwardly, we seem to have become an independent Church, but in reality we have become dependent on the Patriarch of Constantinople. What is addiction? The fact is that we were not given a tomos as the Patriarchate, but were given a tomos as a metropolitanate,” he said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, Filaret referred to the laws of Ukraine guaranteeing freedom of conscience.
“If there is freedom of religion in Ukraine, then it is impossible to deregister the Kiev Patriarchate, because this would be a violation of the Constitution, a violation of freedom of conscience. Therefore, we appeal to the president to help return registration to the Kyiv Patriarchate. In addition, we have intentions to appeal to the world community, in particular to the OSCE,” Filaret said.
