The rector of the church in the village of Divichki, Kyiv region, Archpriest Leonid Smaglyuk, said that he had to give the keys to the church to representatives of the schismatic “Kyiv Patriarchate” because the church was built on the territory of a military unit. There had been no problems for the previous 15 years, but everything changed after the appointment of a schismatic representative as the military chaplain of the unit.
“The conflict arose after the appointment of a military chaplain from the schismatic sect of the so-called Kyiv Patriarchate to the military unit: the chaplain first offered to serve in the church in turn, but, having been refused, demanded the keys to the temple. Raskolnik was fully supported by the unit commander, Colonel Evgeniy Dobrynin,” the message says.
Local residents who were parishioners of the UOC-MP collected more than 200 signatures asking not to change the jurisdiction of the temple, but in response they heard only the commander’s proposal to provide a bus on which believers could go to pray in a neighboring village.
