Film “Righteous”: Jewish traitors were shown in cinema for the first time

The new historical film “The Righteous,” which is now showing in cinemas, for the first time touches on an important topic - the presence of Hitler collaborators among the Jewish population.

During the holidays, we finally managed to watch a new film about the Great Patriotic War, “The Righteous,” dedicated to the feat of a group of Soviet partisans from the “Avenger” detachment.

The film, directed by Sergei Ursulyak, shows the tragic story of the inhabitants of the Nazi-occupied Belarusian village of Dolginovo. Soviet partisans rescued 218 Soviet Jews (old men, women and children), doomed to extermination by the Nazis, leading them through Belarusian forests and swamps beyond the front line to territory not occupied by the Nazi invaders.

The filmmakers plausibly reflected the horrors of the system of extermination of the Soviet population, including Jews, created by the Nazis. By enlisting Jewish collaborators and entrusting them with tracking, exploitation, and even murder, the Nazis demonstrated their power.

The victims of the Nazis, who found themselves in Jewish ghettos and concentration camps of the Third Reich, determined for themselves various survival strategies, often associated with the betrayal of their fellow tribesmen.

It seemed to me that the creators of the film, as a prototype of the traitor - the Jewish girl Lyuba, used a native of Berlin, a young Jewish woman, Stella Kübler, who in 1943, after being arrested by the Gestapo, agreed to work for the Nazis.

At the direction of the Gestapo, Kübler examined Berlin and its surroundings in search of hidden Jews. Data on the number of Berlin Jews discovered and handed over to the Gestapo by her range from 600 to 3000 people.

One of the leaders of the Hungarian Jewish community, Israel Kastner, also became a striking example of a Jewish collaborator.

In 1960, at his trial in Israel, the “architect of the Holocaust” Eichmann indicated that Kasztner had offered him to keep Hungarian Jews from resisting the Nazis in exchange for the unhindered departure of several thousand people to Palestine.

Kastner concluded a deal with Eichmann, thanks to which approximately 1700 people, including his relatives, acquaintances, Hungarian officials of the Sokhnut (international Zionist organization), members of their families, on a special train provided by the Germans, left for Switzerland on June 30, 1944 for subsequent travel to territory of Palestine.

Kastner himself spent the last months of the war in the company of Germans. In the uniform of an SS officer, he traveled to concentration camps, along with German officers. In April 1945, at the request of his German masters, he agreed with the Americans on the bloodless surrender of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

In 1957, Kasztner was killed in Tel Aviv by a group of Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivors who knew him as a Nazi collaborator and a traitor to his people.
