On behalf of the government, the pension and social authority Kela is starting to prepare a model of an unconditional basic income (“basic income”).
After the implementation of the “basic income” system, citizens will be paid a certain amount of money free of charge to ensure everyday life.
Kela project head Olli Kangas said that the maximum payment amount would be 800 euros per month, and the minimum would be 550 euros. The department notes that if a citizen receives the maximum “basic income,” then he will not be paid any other benefits.
The new model should be ready by November 2016.
