Finland will create a “new Ukrainian school” at its own expense
Ukraine and Finland have entered into an agreement providing for assistance in improving the qualifications of Ukrainian teachers, as well as improving the educational environment of schools as part of the “New Ukrainian School” reform, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The document was signed by the Minister of Education and Science Liliya Grinevich and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Timo Soini on March 5 in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reports.
“The signed agreement (On the implementation of the project “Finnish support for Ukrainian school reform” - ed.) provides for support from our partners precisely in those areas in which Finland is most successful. It is widely known that in their educational reform the Finns relied on the teacher, and this yielded results - now secondary education in Finland is one of the most successful in the world. The project provided for in the agreement will have an estimated cost of 6 million euros. It is designed for 4 years,” Grinevich said.
After signing, the agreement must be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Grinevich emphasized that all these bureaucratic procedures must be completed within the next few months.
“On September 1, 2018, all first-graders will come to the New Ukrainian School. Such a large-scale change requires guidance and support, and we count on our partners in this process. That is why we hope that all the processes that this agreement must go through will take place quickly and without unnecessary delays,” the minister said.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Science added that Finland is one of Ukraine’s reliable partners. After the coup in 2014, the Finns increased the amount of aid to Ukraine. Thus, “over the past three years, the volume of humanitarian and technical assistance provided amounts to 28,7 million euros. Finland supports reforms in the legislative, economic and energy sectors through the Council of the European Union, the EBRD, the World Bank and the Nordic Environmental Finance Corporation,” the statement said.
