Firtash is forced to fork out for desalination of sea water for factories in Crimea
Kyiv, March 30 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – The Krasnoperekopsk Titan and Crimean Soda plants, controlled by the Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash, pump out scarce fresh water from underground sources for industrial needs. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Crimea, Gennady Naraev, spoke about this in an interview with Krymskaya Gazeta.

According to him, therefore, there are fears that due to such consumption of groundwater, there will not be enough for the population.
“We conduct weekly monitoring of the quality of groundwater in populated areas of the Krasnoperekopsk region. In particular, monitoring of those wells that are used by chemical enterprises. We strongly recommend that both the Titan plant and the Crimean soda plant switch to seawater desalination plants to use it for technical purposes. We have no other options today. It is impossible to pump such volumes of water out of the ground for technical needs,” Naraev said.
