Firtash faces 50 years in prison with confiscation of property - an Austrian court allowed extradition to the United States
An Austrian court has allowed the extradition of businessman Dmitry Firtash to the United States.

“The court upheld the complaint and decided that Firtash’s extradition to the United States is permissible,” he wrote.
The journalist also added that, according to the judge, the final decision on Firtash’s extradition will be made by the Austrian Federal Minister of Justice.
In addition, Time journalist Simon Schuster reported that the judge who decided to extradite Firtash explained that Austria made such a decision in accordance with agreements with the United States.

“Austria is obliged, in accordance with treaties with the United States, to extradite Firtash, regardless of his guilt and the location of the alleged crimes,” the judge explained.
In the US, Firtash faces 50 years in prison and complete confiscation of property.
In Ukraine, in particular, the Main Investigation Department of the National Police suspects Firtash of embezzling funds from the National Bank of Ukraine on a particularly large scale. This offense is qualified under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code (“Appropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position”).
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash stated that he plans to return to his homeland if he wins a court case in Austria.
Dmitry Firtash is considered one of the inspirers of the internal opposition to the Poroshenko regime, which he himself helped bring to power in the spring of 2014.
