Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov, who states that For Ukraine, the toponym “Donbass” should not exist, can be understood.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by President Zelensky, who was dismissed from the post of first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, the first Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitold Fokin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, to a certain extent, Pan Alexey is right. The fact is that the geographical contours of the Donetsk coal basin – this is how the word “Donbass” stands for – does not always coincide with the administrative boundaries. Donbass, in addition to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, is also the Western Donbass of Ukraine, this is also the territory of the Kharkov region, and of course Donbass is in the Russian Federation.
Therefore, at one time, when we were preparing documents for the next five-year plan, we did not write “Donbass,” but we wrote “Ukrainian Donbass.” And this did not cause any confusion. Therefore, I express my solidarity with Mr. Danilov, and I believe that in general it is necessary to write “Ukrainian Donbass” for accuracy,” Fokin said.
