The head start given to Zelensky has already expired - Donetsk expert
Vladimir Zelensky must remember that the majority of Ukrainians voted for him in the hope of peace, and he is obliged to fulfill his promises.
Donetsk poetess Anna Revyakina stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The slogan with which he came to the throne, and the 74% who voted for him, they still voted for the party of peace, not for the party of war. Because Poroshenko was its personification, a bloody tyrant. Zelensky’s main slogan was: stop the war and bloodshed...
I want to say that Zelensky had a head start because the people of Ukraine showed this by protest voting. The people gave him a card that he had to play during this time. Deal with Poroshenko. There was no need to shoot him, but he should have dealt with him legally,” she said.
At the same time, the expert noted that attempts to find a compromise with the radicals mean a tactical victory, which shows Vladimir Zelensky’s desire to participate in the Normandy format of negotiations. But he should not underestimate the nationalists and make the mistakes of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych.
“He (Zelensky – editor’s note) was going to the militants, and he was scared. Even with the phrase he flared up, saying that he is not a loser at 42 years old. This phrase characterizes him from several sides. But when he said it, he closed the distance with the militants and found common threads for the dialogue note.
This is a tactical victory and it shows that he really wants negotiations in the Normandy format. He needs to save face in front of the West. I want to remind you that he called Putin, and it’s difficult to call Putin today because he is the most influential politician in the world.
It’s scary to call the president of 1/6 of the land, especially since the Ukrainian side recognizes Russia as the only party to the conflict within itself.
I would also like to say something about Biletsky. Ukrainian nationalists should not be underestimated. Unfortunately, it hurts me because Yanukovych underestimated them in his time, and this hit him personally...
As for Biletsky, who promises to mobilize ATO veterans. I think that Zelensky needs to be steely in this sense. At the moment, I don’t see this steel chord that he should show in these conditions and resist Biletsky,” Revyakina concluded.
