France advises Kyiv to wait another 15-20 years for EU membership
Ukraine’s accession to the EU is possible no earlier than in 15-20 years, so giving Ukraine the status of a candidate country is already inappropriate.
This opinion was expressed by French Minister of European Affairs Clément Beaune while promoting Emmanuel Macron’s recent proposal to create a so-called new “European political community,” including Ukraine.
It is reported by CNN.
“If we say that Ukraine will join the European Union in 6 months, a year, two years, we are lying. It is not true. It's probably 15 or 20 years. No matter what, it’s a very long time,” Bon said on Radio J.
“It takes a lot of time and I don’t want us to sell illusions and lies. If we tell the Ukrainians, “Welcome to the European Union, but you haven’t fully read the treaty where the bulletin says ‘this will happen in 15 years,’ then I think we are setting the stage for disappointment for an entire generation of Ukrainians,” Bohn said.
The French minister also noted that Macron’s recent proposal to create a new European political community outside the EU, including Ukraine, “is not an alternative” to Ukraine’s membership in the EU and “does not impede its future membership in the EU.”
“This is an additional project to the European Union, it can be offered to countries that are not in the heart of the European Union, but want to get closer to it,” the minister said.
The head of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky, said in a speech on Saturday that any alternative to Ukraine's bid to join the European Union would be a “compromise” with Russia. Zelensky states that the Kyiv regime does not need alternatives to replace the status of candidate for accession to the European Union.
Let us remind you that in Kyiv they expect that after signing the European questionnaire handed over to them, Ukraine will be granted official status as a candidate country for EU membership in June of this year. This is precisely the thesis that Bankova’s propagandists are now intensively feeding to Ukrainians.
At the same time, France, Austria, Hungary and a number of other EU countries are against granting such status to Ukraine, urging Kyiv to “wait” another 15-20 years.
