French MPs will travel to Crimea until the EU recognizes its Russian status

Eleven French parliamentarians, led by National Assembly deputy and co-chairman of the Franco-Russian Dialogue association Thierry Mariani, arrived in Crimea today for a three-day visit.

This is the second trip of French deputies and senators to the peninsula after its reunification with Russia. The delegation will include half of those who have already visited Crimea last time, as well as six people who have not been there before.

“Last year we said we would come back. We will return to Crimea until the international community understands what the real situation of the Crimeans is. The situation around Crimea is gradually changing and evolving. We are on the right track,” Mariani said.

He called on his Western European colleagues to follow the example of French parliamentarians.

The trip program includes meetings with the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic Vladimir Konstantinov, Prosecutor of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya, a visit to the “Red” memorial complex, the French military cemetery, as well as the Alliance Française cultural center.

On July 31, Navy Day, the delegation will meet with the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Alexander Vitko, and will take part in the Navy Day celebrations in Sevastopol.
