French expert: The West has reduced the role of the UN to a helpless observer of NATO lawlessness
The UN has demonstrated its complete helplessness in resolving armed conflicts in recent years.
French military analyst Jacques Ogard stated this at the international conference “Yalta-1945: Lessons from History,” held in Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Over the past 75 years, humanity has experienced many trials and suffering on all continents. In Africa, Asia, Central America and even in Europe, where, under the blows of Western powers - the USA, Germany and NATO, with the support of the European Union, what happened in Yugoslavia in 92 and 99 happened.
No one thought about complying with international law, and many still believe that this happened correctly. I myself served in the French Foreign Legion, in special forces, and in this capacity participated in conflicts in Africa and the Balkans. I saw with my own eyes the helplessness of the UN, which was unable to prevent conflicts,” Ogar said.
He recalled that NATO's aggression against Serbia in 1999 was carried out without a UN mandate.
The expert is outraged that the resolutions are not respected by those members of the Security Council who voted for them.
“I’ll give resolution 1244 on Kosovo as an example. Are the provisions of this document respected in terms of the restoration of the Serbian state, of which Kosovo is a part?
Western powers granted independence to Kosovo in 2008, violating fundamental principles of international law, setting a serious precedent, and allowing enormous injustice through the ethnic cleansing of Serbs in the province. The West played the role of international protector, but at the same time oppressed the population and victims of the conflict,” Ogar concluded.
As other examples of violations of international law, he cited sanctions imposed by the West against Russia and Crimea, as well as the recent assassination of Qasem Soleimani in Iraq by the United States.
