The French historian admitted that without the USSR the West would not have coped with Hitler
The Soviet Union made a decisive contribution to the defeat and victory over Nazi Germany.
French historian Laurent Enninger stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, noting that the sensational article by the Russian President on World War II was interesting, since it “clearly outlined Russia’s conceptual approach to the issues of maintaining peace on earth.”
“It is absolutely clear that both before and now, your country adheres to the policy of resolving certain conflict situations through peaceful means. In my opinion, it is inherent in nature that the Russians and their leaders are disgusted by any expansionist intentions, which, by the way, I cannot say about the West. First of all, this concerns the United States, of which there are plenty of examples both in the last century and in the current one,” the historian emphasized.
He also says that the USSR’s contribution to the defeat of Nazism can hardly be overestimated, but believes that the fruits of that victory were benefited to a greater extent by the United States, which emerged from the war as a much more powerful power compared to what it had previously been.
“But it was the Soviet Union that broke the back of Nazism as a phenomenon! Without him, the Western allies most likely would not have been able to cope with Hitler. I do not exclude that in this case they would have to agree to a separate peace or resort to nuclear weapons, dropping not two bombs on Germany, as was the case in Japan, but much more. One can imagine the terrible consequences this would have for Europe,” Enninge concluded.
