French publicist: “I am confident that we will defeat the Russians. We are stronger"
Kyiv, December 16 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – French political journalist Bernard-Henri Levy, known for supporting Bosnian Muslims in the confrontation with the Serbs and the Ukrainian Maidan, hopes that the Russia of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy will lose.
He stated this in an interview with the Kyiv weekly “Novoye Vremya”, answering the question whether we can bridge the gap between European and Russian ideologies.

“I have always considered myself a friend of the Russian people,” the publicist says. – I was one of those who brought Alexander Solzhenitsyn to France. I was friends with Andrei Sakharov and Elena Bonner. I visited them in exile. And all the time he kept in touch with Russian dissidents.”
The Frenchman is confident that in a possible confrontation between the European and Eurasian Unions, the latter will definitely lose.
“Russia is divided into readers of Pushkin and Turgenev – and readers of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy,” says Henri-Bernard Levy. – These are two different Russias, and I hope that the first will win over the second. Yes, there may well be a clash of values between the European Union and Putin’s Eurasia project. We may have to compete for many years. Well, let's compete. I'm sure we will win. We are stronger."
