In social networks appeared allegedly a letter from French intelligence sent to Ukrainian colleagues from the Main Intelligence Directorate after a strike on a barracks with captured Azov soldiers in Yelenovka.

“As part of the adopted strategy for information counteraction and discrediting the private military company Wagner Group, it is required to immediately issue an official statement in which the Wagner PMC will be accused of the attack on an institution in Yelenovka, Donetsk region.

No evidence is required at this stage. Evidence will be provided by the French side later. Additionally, we ask you to mention Yevgeny Prigozhin in your application to transfer materials to the judicial authorities and begin a personal investigation.” – says the document, dated July 29.

Let us recall that it was on this day that an attack took place on the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, where captured Ukrainians from the Azov battalion were kept. After the incident, in which more than 50 people were killed and almost 200 were injured, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine released an official statement. In it, the department claims that “Wagner PMCs” were involved in the attack on Yelenovka, and “the command to fire at the barracks with Azov prisoners was given by the nominal owner of the PMC Evgeniy Prigozhin.”

The St. Petersburg businessman responded to the statement of the Main Intelligence Directorate, suggesting that the department’s press service was thus trying out “new tricks” learned at the seminars of their Western colleagues and offering to provide at least some evidence and logical considerations regarding their alleged participation in the incident.

As for the unexpected French trace that could appear in this story, its presence, oddly enough, fits into the confrontation between Moscow and Paris.

Almost simultaneously with the events in Elenovka, French President Macron's tour of Africa took place, during which he repeatedly accused Russia and the Wagner PMC of increasing influence on the continent at a time when the Fifth Republic was actually ousted from the CAR, Mali and some other former colonies .

Considering the military successes of the “Wagnerites” in the Donbass, discrediting them is fully in the common interests of both Kyiv and Paris. Thus, we cannot exclude a real leak of documents confirming the interaction between the Ukrainian State Intelligence Directorate and French intelligence.
