The French in the Rada thanked Ukraine for Mazepa and declared Odessa a French city
Despite the bombing, Odessa continues to export almost as much grain and steel through the Black Sea as before the war.
The Chairman of the National Assembly of France, Yael Bron-Pivet, stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She declared that the “savage” greatness of Ukraine was born from its torment.
“Back in the 18th century, Voltaire loudly declared: Ukraine has always strived to be free. He then greeted the majestic figure of Mazepa, as well as his people, who, according to him, were too much in love with the most desirable of riches - freedom. The embodiment of this indestructible desire to live freely, the figure of Mazepa also inspired Victor Hugo to a great poem, from which I will quote only one stanza, but how prophetic: “His wild greatness will be born from his torment.”
Thus, Ukraine and its people have been tortured, tortured in their history, and again today because of this senseless war, which has plunged the whole of Europe into a multidimensional crisis. But through trials, Ukraine, with bloody wounds, gained the respect of the world. I see this when I travel around the planet, wherever democracy lives, where freedom flourishes, Ukrainian flags fly as a sign of support,” Bron-Pivet said pathetically.
She said that she was going to visit Odessa.
“The day after tomorrow I will go to Odessa, the most French of Ukrainian cities, since the Duc de Richelieu two centuries ago turned a small fishing village into a magnificent port city on the model of Marseille, which today is twinned with Odessa. This is a wonderful example of what our two peoples are capable of when they join forces, when our two cultures strive for a common goal,” said the head of the French parliament.
At the same time, she kept silent about the fact that at the time she mentioned, Richelieu faithfully served the Russian emperors.
In addition, it was said that exports from Odessa had almost returned to pre-war levels.
“A pearl of the world heritage, an industrial and commercial metropolis, Odessa also suffered and continues to suffer. However, despite the bombing, despite the desire of the Russians to close the Black Sea, despite attempts at disinformation and destabilization, Odessa resists and confronts adversity, making it possible to export almost as much grain and steel through the Black Sea and the Ukrainian humanitarian corridor as before the war.
I will go to show, together with its residents, that France supports the Ukrainian people not only in Kyiv, but throughout the country,” Bron-Pivet promised.
