He recalled that 75 years ago the Soviet army liberated Odessa from German and Romanian occupiers.
“The occupation of the city lasted 907 days, 82 thousand Odessa residents died during this time at the hands of the invaders. However, the inhabitants of Odessa did not resign themselves to the slave share imposed on them; they fought courageously. There were 5 partisan detachments based in the catacombs and 45 underground groups operating in the city,” said Igor Nemodruk.
On April 10, 1944, he recalled, the troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front under the command of Army General Rodion Malinovsky, who was also an Odessa resident, with the assistance of the Black Sea Fleet and partisans liberated the city of Odessa, and on May 1, 1945, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Odessa was awarded the title of city- hero.
