The FSB caught a member of the Basayev and Khattab gangs in Crimea
The FSB detained in Crimea Ruslanbek Arslanov, an accomplice in the armed attack of the gangs Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab on the Republic of Dagestan in August-September 1999, which resulted in the death of more than 280 and injuries to over 800 military personnel, law enforcement officers and civilians and caused significant damage economy of the Republic.
The FSB press service reported this, clarifying that the operation was carried out jointly with the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the same time, it became known that another accomplice of Arslanov, Surtlanbek Adzhinyazov, was detained on the mainland, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Both detainees, born in 1969 and 1972, natives of the Stavropol Territory, were taken to the preliminary investigation authority. In the near future they will be charged under Art. 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer”). The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
Efforts to search for accomplices in terrorist crimes of past years who escaped criminal liability continue.
Let us recall that in Ukrainian times, the former speaker of the Crimean parliament Leonid Grach repeatedly stated that the republic had become a haven for militants from Chechnya who were undergoing rehabilitation on the territory of the peninsula.
“Chechen fighters are healing gunshot wounds received in the fight against Russian troops in the Saki and Yevpatoriya sanatoriums with their mud baths. This is no secret for local residents. The Chechen presence is practically legalized. It goes under the banner of helping fellow believers. Those who fought against Russian troops yesterday are today calmly walking around Crimea, sunbathing, and receiving treatment. This is not the Pankisi Gorge, here they feel good and calm. Through dummies, people from Chechnya are buying housing in Feodosia, and there are many of them in Bakhchisarai,” said Grach in 2003.
