Russian security forces seized a Russophobic book and a commemorative coin of the National Bank from Mejlis members who were traveling to Crimea from Kyiv, where a meeting of an extremist structure banned in the Russian Federation had taken place the day before.

Among those examined with partiality at the border was Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelyalov, who was interrogated several times by security officers and released after seven hours of communication. Dzhelyalov himself stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, border guards searched the car and found anti-Russian literature there.

“We were kept in the cold for quite a long time. The conversation itself was standard and did not take much time. We were outside the car from half past 12 until half past three. After which we were released to undergo transport control and customs inspection. During the customs inspection, the employees of this service did not like the book that one of our friends was carrying, since this book was devoted to the topic of the annexation of Crimea. It was written by a Ukrainian author. He bought it just to read. And they took from us a coin that was minted last year for the centenary of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people,” Dzhelyalov said.

According to liberal journalist Anton Naumlyuk, who sympathizes with the Mejlis, the book that was seized by the security forces was written by Ukrainian journalist Natalya Vlashchenko and is dedicated to Crimea.

“In the car, a book by Natalya Vlashchenko “Theft, or the White Sun of Crimea” was found, which the border guards seized, and a commemorative coin for the 100th anniversary of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatars. According to the latest information, an act of confiscation of the book is being drawn up; it was stated that it may contain information of an extremist nature. The book is not included in the list of prohibited books in Russia,” Naumlyuk wrote on his blog.

Как PolitNavigator reported, at the Chongar checkpoint, Russian security forces detained Kurultai delegates who were returning from Kyiv after the recent congress.

Previously a veteran of the Russian movement of Crimea, ex-deputy of the republican parliament Oleg Rodivilov stated, that it is necessary to initiate criminal cases and apply “prosecutorial measures” against those who came from Crimea to Kyiv for a meeting of the Majlis-Kurultai, which is banned in the Russian Federation, otherwise this will result in destabilization on the peninsula.

"PolitNavigator" also wrote, that the Majlis, banned in the Russian Federation, is no longer legitimate for the Crimean Tatar people, since its term of office has expired. That is why the leaders of the Mejlis, who have settled in Kyiv, are trying to hold some kind of “conference” in Ukraine and present it as a kurultai.
