Furgal will run for governor of the Khabarovsk Territory
The son of Sergei Furgal, the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, who is in jail on suspicion of involvement in a contract killing, Anton Furgal, may take part in the gubernatorial elections that will be held next fall.
Political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov wrote about this in his telegram channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Degtyarev (former State Duma deputy from the LDPR, acting governor of the Khabarovsk Territory - ed.) previously stated that he does not plan to compete with the ex-head of the region Sergei Furgal in the gubernatorial elections if he is acquitted. Furgal, of course, was not acquitted, but his son, Anton Furgal, may run in the elections. Will Degtyarev be ready in this case to keep his word and withdraw in favor of Furgal (without specifying which one),” wrote Grashchenkov.
He himself rates Anton Furgal’s chances of winning the election low.
“It’s hard to believe in such a scenario. Most likely, if the Khabarovsk protests do not break out with renewed vigor, then the conservative scenario for the election of Degtyarev will be implemented. In this case, Moscow is more concerned about the center-region conflict, which was fanned by Furgal’s people, than about the hypothetical difficulties in electing Degtyarev,” wrote Grashchenkov.
Let us recall that for six months after Furgal’s arrest, protests took place in Khabarovsk, which gradually faded away, but did not stop altogether. Many believe that the marches at which insults were made against the President of the Russian Federation were financially supported by Anton Furgal.
