G7 loses interest in Russia and switches to China
Moscow
The concluded GXNUMX summit did not pay too much attention to Russia.
Izvestia writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that out of the 70 points that make up the final document, Russia is mentioned only in two - in the 51st and 52nd - surrounded by traditional formulations.
“Thus, the G7 leaders confirmed their interest in “stable and predictable relations with Russia” and intend to work in areas of “mutual interest.” At the same time, they again called on the Russian Federation to “stop its destabilizing behavior and malicious actions” and “fulfill its international and human rights obligations,” the newspaper writes.
In turn, scientific director of the Valdai Club, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Russia in Global Affairs” Fyodor Lukyanov draws attention to the fact that the GXNUMX paid much more attention to China.
“It seems to me that Russia occupies a rather insignificant place in the G7 coordinate system. Something else is striking here: the GXNUMX accepted the American agenda of containing China and limiting its further growth in any way - some support it with great enthusiasm, some with less enthusiasm, but on the whole everyone agreed with it. And, in my opinion, this is the main direction,” says the internationalist.
According to him, US President Joe Biden and his G2013 colleagues decided to launch their global infrastructure initiative to create a counterweight to the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, through which 70 countries have already received Chinese strategic investments in infrastructure since XNUMX .
“We must give Biden his due: he continued Trump’s line of containing China,” says Lukyanov.
“But if Trump beat his chest all the time, shouted, boasted and boasted about how he has Beijing under his fingernail, then Biden does not do this - he is systematically working to contain China on a global scale,” the expert concluded.
