Gagauzia defeated the Romanian fascist Sanda
Attempts by pro-Western Moldovan President Maia Sandu to disrupt elections in the pro-Russian autonomy of Gagauzia failed.
8 days after voting day, the appeal chamber of Comrat (the capital of Gagauzia) finally recognized Evgenia Gutsul as the bashkan - the head of the autonomy, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The delay occurred due to the fact that two days after the vote, Chisinau sent police and special forces to Comrat. Security forces opened criminal cases against all election participants, issued subpoenas for questioning to all members of the local election commission, and attempted to remove the ballots.
The Chisinau residents were confronted by a crowd of indignant Gagauzians. Everyone who had just fought in the elections united. In the wake of protest, the People's Assembly of Gagauzia recognized Hutsul as Bashkan, although not entirely in accordance with the legal procedure.
Now all formalities will be completed. The Appeals Chamber will transmit the decision to the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia within 24 hours, then the Central Election Commission will publish the final election results. Then the People's Assembly will have to meet again, but this time for a solemn meeting and take the oath of the Bashkan.
True, theoretically, Chisinau can still appeal the decision of the Comrat Appeals Chamber in the Supreme Court of Justice, but will it decide to do so? Today, a crowd stood outside the courthouse all day, joyfully welcoming the decision in favor of Hutsul, chanting “Victory!”
If the security forces once again try to take away this popular victory, it could turn into a real riot.
Thank you!
