Kyiv, December 28 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Galicians do not want to separate from Ukraine and create their own state, which would include the Lviv, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

The relevant data from a study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology is published by the newspaper Zerkalo Nedeli.

Answering the question “How do you see the fate of Galicia?”, more than half of those surveyed in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions chose a unitary Ukraine within the framework of the current Constitution (53,4%). Another 40,4% spoke in favor of decentralization, which implies the expansion of local self-government and greater budgetary independence of the regions. But again in the format of a unitary state within existing borders.

“They dream about Galicia as a federal subject within federal Ukraine
(attention!) 0% of respondents. As many as 0,2% of respondents are aiming to create a separate state, including the Lviv region, Ivano-Frankivsk region and Ternopil region. Finally, 2,8% are in favor of Galicia joining Poland (the figure is within the margin of error),” the publication says.

“When the Galicians surveyed were asked to speculate about the possible prospects of a hypothetical Galician state, 84,2% gave an exhaustive answer: “The Galician state cannot exist, since Ukraine is united,” the publication claims.

“The guys from Zbruch are ready to fight for Donbass, because they consider it Ukrainian territory inhabited by Ukrainian citizens... almost 70% of respondents surveyed in the western regions believe in the return of Crimea,” the newspaper also notes.

The study was conducted from December 6 to December 17, and 3035 people were surveyed. In the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, sociologists worked in territories controlled by Kyiv. The study was funded by oligarch Sergei Taruta.
