About this in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” рассказал ex-speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin.
“I was introduced to the results of closed measurements carried out by the authorities. As it turned out, residents of Western Ukraine are more afraid than others of the introduction of visas for Russian citizens, because Moscow will most likely respond in kind. Because of this, hundreds of thousands of Western Ukrainian migrant workers who are now in Russia will suffer. They ask how we will live then. Therefore, the authorities are simply putting on a show. If the Cabinet of Ministers wanted, it would have established a visa regime long ago. And the Verkhovna Rada is not needed for this at all,” Voloshin said.
He also claims that Kyiv’s attempts to introduce a visa regime with Russia will not find understanding in the West.
“Moreover, this contradicts the sentiments in the West, where, despite everything, they want to reconcile Ukraine with Russia. Nobody wants to worsen the current situation. And when they say here that in order to obtain a “visa-free” it is necessary to introduce visas with Russia, this is turned upside down. The European Union has never conditioned its visa-free regime on the abolition of the same, but with Russia. Their direct demand to issue biometric passports to residents of uncontrolled areas of Donbass and Crimea generally shows the European Union as a greater supporter of the integrity of Ukraine than Ukrainian nationalists who are ready to give up this territory,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized.
