Gasparyan: Europeans do not trust Ukraine, and the language law will cause an acute crisis
The current composition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is unable to critically analyze the situation in the country, and the adopted laws on language quotas on TV can turn into a serious internal political crisis.

This opinion was expressed by political expert and radio host Armen Gasparyan in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“On the one hand, this could add fuel to the fire in the current conflict between Ukraine and some European neighbors, and become another proof of the radicalism of Kiev’s solution to any issues. In this case, we are much more interested in the direct relationship with the situation in Donbass. Let me remind you that the issue of language was one of the main ones in 2014 and, as we see, there is no progress in this field, but rather, on the contrary, there is a diligent tightening of the screws and whipping up general hysteria, even despite complaints from EU member states . On the other hand, most likely, if Brussels reprimands them on this matter, Ukraine will again say that “you understand, when the Soviet Union collapsed, we did not have time to adopt this kind of legislation. But look at the Baltic countries, where similar language quotas, in principle, exist,” says the expert.
According to Gasparyan, the discussion that followed the adoption of the education law reduced the room for maneuver for official Kyiv.
“He now has to explain that in this way he takes care of his language, and is not at all engaged in its forced imposition, because the Hungarians did not believe it, the Romanians also do not believe in it. Well, it’s clear what Russia’s position is; there is also the position of the Poles. Another question is that the current composition of the Verkhovna Rada, in principle, is not able to analyze the situation and make the right decision for itself, that these laws need to be revoked and redone, taking into account the current political realities and the prospects that may arise in the country after the adoption of a number of similar bills . This could turn into a serious internal political crisis,” Gasparyan said.
