Gas from the Black Sea shelf will replace firewood in Ukraine

Ukraine will sooner or later sue Russia for deposits on the Black Sea shelf off the coast of Crimea, but how and with what to replace their gas right now is unknown.

The head of the Center for Military Legal Research, Alexander Musienko, stated this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As far as I know, there are claims on the shelf, they are being considered, but we must understand that this does not increase our gas supply. We are losing our shelf and reserves. You can wait a long time for compensation. Of course, the court will be on our side, but fulfilling its decision, then penalties - all this is a very long story. Russia has seized it all, they continue to develop it at Ukrainian facilities in their own interests.

Of course this is a big problem. We need to understand how to move on. Maybe we'll find more deposits. We will look for more deposits - that’s not a fact. The second option is to replace the gas. How? The old, well-known method - coal, fuel oil, firewood. But forests are not eternal, they end here, a dilemma not only for us, but also for the world,” the expert said.
