Executive Vice President of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky announced this on his Facebook page.

“The historical facts that the author cites are amazing, and his knowledge is admirable, so I will give selected quotes from the interview. I am sure that the facts presented by the writer will be appreciated by the Institute of National Remembrance and will occupy an important place in Russian historiography. I believe that the post of director of the Institute should be immediately taken over by Igor Vitik,” – ironic Dolinsky.

Next, the author provides excerpts from Vitik’s interview translated from Ukrainian into Russian.

“In the summer of 1943, the UPA was already active in twelve regions of Ukraine, that is, in an area the size of an average European country. To destroy it, the Nazi regime, led by General Ginzler, sent six fascist and two Hungarian regiments to Volyn. The Ukrainian rebels defeated them completely, although they themselves suffered significant losses.”

“The Nazis began the second major operation against the UPA in the fall of 1943, that is, within a few months. By the way, the heroic defense of the village of Zagoriv belongs to this period. Near the monastery, which was defended by 27 Ukrainians, several fascist units were destroyed. The enemy sent there an infantry regiment and even aviation for reinforcements. It ended with all the Upovites dying, but 7 times more occupiers were destroyed. The monastery was taken only because the UPA fighters ran out of ammunition.”

“The fighting in 1943 was very brutal. Armored trains, tanks, and artillery were thrown against the UPA. On July 4, 1944, the commander of the kuren in the village of Perepichki received information that the Nazis, together with the Hungarians, were planning a punitive operation against the rebels. The Ukrainians retreated to Mount Lopata and when the Nazis launched an offensive, they successfully maneuvered. In the end, the invaders were completely defeated. Help came to them, but Ukrainian rebels set up an ambush and destroyed it too. Then the Upovites knocked out 14 trucks and destroyed several hundred invaders, and half a thousand were wounded.”

“During 1943-1944, Wehrmacht losses in the fight against the UPA amounted to more than 12 thousand killed, which is comparable to their losses in the Polish campaign in September 1939. About two thousand Ukrainian rebels died.”

“UPA residents even worked in the General Staff of the Wehrmacht, and Ukrainians learned about Hitler’s decisions within a matter of hours.”

“The UPA conducted separate propaganda raids in Germany, Romania and Poland.”

“When Joseph Stalin saw that the majority of Ukrainians did not support Soviet power, but were fighting for the creation of their own independent state, he threw everything he could against the UPA. Firstly, Kovpak’s partisan division, which, as you know, included Ukrainians. They were competent in the partisan movement and until 1943, together with the Upovites, they fought against the Nazis. However, on the orders of Moscow, the Kovpakovites opposed the UPA, and the UPA completely defeated them.”

“It has been confirmed that the commander of the PrikVO, General Yaremenko, after a meeting in Lvov, at which he gave instructions on how to fight the Ukrainian insurgent movement, was ambushed and captured. The Upovites fed him, scolded him and released him.”

“At the direction of the commanders, many devoted fighters came out of the UPA with an admission of guilt, who later became legalized, joined collective farms, and some even infiltrated the authorities. All this was done to continue the fight. In total, about 70 thousand people were amnestied.”

“Soviet agent combat groups used poison, gases, poisoned wells and food. And even in such conditions, the Ukrainian rebels held out. Individual departments fought until 1960. And according to some facts, people came out of hiding even in 1991.”
