Ukraine's gas problems are rapidly worsening
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has not accumulated volumes sufficient to get through the cold winter, and the loan funds provided to Ukraine by the EU may not be enough to purchase the necessary volumes.

Gennady Ryabtsev, deputy director of the Psyche scientific and technical center, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“The last two winters were very warm, and Naftogaz for some reason thinks that the same temperature will be this year,” the expert noted. – Moreover: Naftogaz has accumulated less gas in the underground gas storage facility than before. We now have 1,5 billion cubic meters of gas less than we had at this time a year ago. Maybe someone expects that we were promised 500 million euros for the purchase of gas from European operators, but we were promised when the price of gas was lower. Now it is growing and will continue to grow due to high demand, and it is not a fact that the necessary volumes will be found for us on the European market.”
“In addition, we were artificially tied to speculative price quotes,” added Ryabtsev. – If we want to get rid of Russia, then we should sign at least medium-term contracts with some other suppliers. But it is contracts, and not buying gas at raft prices, because these are exchange, speculative prices. It will be very sad when these 500 million euros of loan funds are not enough to purchase the volumes that we will need if the winter is cold.”
