The gas crisis will begin in the first minute of 2020
From January 1, the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine will stop, since Kyiv does not want to renew the current contract, and in order to sign a new one, according to European rules, Ukraine will not have time to complete the procedures specified for this.
Energy expert Boris Martsinkevich stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Creating a legal entity is one thing, but obtaining certification from the Ukrainian regulator and a second certificate from the European association is, indeed, something to obtain before January 1 - some kind of utopia.
This is completely unrealistic; accordingly, if Gazprom wants to negotiate with someone on January 1 at 00:01, it simply will have no one to talk to, there is no legal entity that would meet the requirements...
What will happen from January 1 if the Ukrainian side believes that the agreement cannot be extended under any circumstances? This means there will be no transit.
Strictly speaking, that’s all, because Gazprom will not have any legal basis for transit. There is no party to the agreement, there is no agreement,” said Martsinkevich.
Let us recall that Ukraine, realizing that Russia does not have time to launch the bypass pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Turkish Stream by January 2, requires Moscow to sign a new long-term gas contract on terms favorable to Kyiv.
Russia proposes to extend the current gas agreement for another year.
