Gazprom deprived Naftogaz of its main trump card
On June 13, the Court of Appeal of the District of Svea (Sweden) granted the petition of PJSC Gazprom and issued an order to suspend the execution of the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court dated February 28, 2018 in the dispute between Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine under a contract for gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.
It is reported TASS, referring to the Russian gas holding.
It is noted that the petition was filed by Gazprom on June 7, 2018 in connection with the appeal of the arbitration decision on the transit contract and Naftogaz’s attempts to begin the procedure for enforcing this decision in various jurisdictions before considering the complaint on the merits.
“The Court of Appeal agreed that there were sufficient grounds to suspend the execution of the Stockholm arbitration award. The issuance of the order deprives NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, including the grounds for attempts to arrest Gazprom’s assets abroad. This circumstance will be used by Gazprom when appealing against the actions of bailiffs in Switzerland and the Netherlands,” the statement says.
