Gazprom has sent Naftogaz of Ukraine an official proposal to extend the validity of an existing or conclude a new contract for gas transit through the territory of Ukraine for a year, taking into account the projected demand of European buyers for 2020, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Gazprom’s proposal states that the necessary conditions for extending the existing contract or concluding a new contract are: refusal by both parties of all mutual claims in international arbitration and termination of all legal proceedings, cancellation of the decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to impose a fine on Gazprom for allegedly “violation of economic competition” and withdrawal of Naftogaz of Ukraine’s petition to initiate an investigation by the European Commission against Gazprom,” the company clarified.
In addition, Gazprom expects the position of the Ukrainian side on its readiness to directly purchase Russian gas from 2020.
In turn, Naftogaz spoke about Gazprom’s requirements for a new transit contract. The new contract on gas transit through Ukraine after 2019 will be with the new operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine will not be a party to the transit contract in the near future. The Russian side formally says that it agrees to such conditions, but has a number of demands on the Ukrainian side.
