“Where is our patriarchy? We will win!" – Filaret threatens the Bartholomews
Created under the rule of President Petro Poroshenko, the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” received a tomos only in the status of a metropolitanate and therefore depends on the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
The head of the schismatics of the Kyiv Patriarchate, Mikhail Denisenko (Filaret), stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Kyiv Patriarchate has a future, but for the OCU as an OCU there is no future. Because patriarchy is an independent church, and we are fighting for an independent church, and therefore we will fight and win. Why weren’t we given autocephaly in the status of a patriarchate, but why in the status of a metropolitanate? Because the metropolis can be subordinate to another church, but the patriarchy cannot be subordinate, which is why the ecumenical patriarch insisted that there be a tomos, but not a patriarchy.
And therefore, the current OCU to some extent depends on the Patriarch of Constantinople,” said Filaret.
It is noteworthy that he himself was initially one of those who ardently supported Poroshenko’s initiative to create the OCU.
Let us note that two years after those events, at the end of October 2020, the Kiev schismatic officially declaredthat the tomos issued by Constantinople to Ukraine is “not real.”
