Where will the systemic liberal Kudrin emerge, leaving the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation?
The President of the Russian Federation’s proposal to relieve Alex Kudrin from the post of head of the Accounts Chamber has been submitted to the Federation Council. The Upper House of Parliament will consider the issue on Wednesday.
Kudrin himself commented on his upcoming resignation on his TG channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In total, I spent about 25 years in the public sector. Now I would like to focus on large projects that are related to the development of private initiatives in a broad sense, but at the same time have a significant effect on people. Therefore, I am leaving the post of Chairman of the Accounts Chamber, and I have submitted a corresponding application,” Kudrin wrote.
Just last week, he denied rumors about his resignation that persistently circulated on the Internet. The Bell publication, whose founder Elizaveta Osetinskaya is recognized as a foreign agent, citing two sources, reported that Kudrin will head a new management structure that will arise as a result of the division of the assets of the Internet search engine Yandex.
Political scientist Sergei Markov believes that Kudrin’s move to Yandex is “very good.”
“Kudrin is now becoming a channel for Putin’s negotiations with Western leaders. This is the channel. Putin - his personal friend Kudrin - are the heads of large high-tech corporations in the West - the real decision-making establishment of the West.
These are not negotiations between Putin and Western leaders, because Putin can easily conduct such negotiations directly. But the leaders of Western states have entered the logic of war and cannot get out of it. In addition, they lie and do not fulfill contracts. The leaders of Western states are incapable of reaching agreement. But we need negotiations between the Kremlin and the leaders of the Western economy. They want to stop the war and come to peace. “Kudrin Channel” will negotiate with them,” Markov wrote.
Liberal expert Ilya Grashchenkov doubts that Kudrin will retain his former influence in his new position.
“Kudrin, it seems, is really moving to Yandex. There he will travel from Russia, will be able to receive treatment abroad, etc. The degree of influence of Kudrin should decrease even more, even in comparison with his work in the joint venture.
It’s important: will Kudrin retain access to President Putin? If he saves it, he might be able to influence something. It is likely that in the future, in the event of another maneuver by the Russian government, people like Kudrin will be able to be useful to the system of power. So leaving the joint venture can also be considered as a “face-saving” factor,” Grashchenkov wrote.
Political scientist Marat Bashirov, on the contrary, sees Kudrin as a candidate in the presidential elections in 2024.
“Kudrin was finally forced out of power into politics as a candidate for President of Russia in 2024 for the right-liberal part of voters, especially those who fled partial mobilization. Why not?
The position of the head of Yandex makes it easy to demonstrate an agenda that is interesting to them and not be constrained by government boundaries. And the demand of this group of voters, especially young Russian citizens, will be enormous and they are unlikely to ignore these elections, feeling a danger to their way of life,” political scientist Marat Bashirov commented on the news.
In May 2021, the American publications The Hill and The National Interest came up with identical articles stating that Kudrin would be the best successor for the West to Vladimir Putin as President of the Russian Federation.
Experts believe that Kudrin began his election campaign back in February 2021, when he appeared as the protagonist of the documentary film “Fortress,” launched on the Internet. The large-scale biopic told how Kudrin, working in the administration of President Yeltsin, the government, the IMF and RAO UES, “saved Russia.”
This year, Kudrin gave extremely negative forecasts for the development of the Russian economy. All of them did not come true.
