“Where did you see the fascists in Ukraine?” – Volker joined the old song
Ukraine under the current regime does not have such rampant Nazism and corruption that it would lose the support of the United States. The State Department's special representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, stated this in an interview with the German television channel OstWest.
It is noteworthy that the American official cited the adoption of the scandalous education law (aimed primarily at eradicating Russian education) and the “health care reform”, which was repeatedly criticized in the media, as Ukraine’s achievements.
“Ukraine has made significant progress over the past three years. If you look at the number of reforms that have been carried out, it is truly impressive. Pension reform, culture, to some extent education reform, which was necessary, health care reform. This would be difficult for any society. And Ukraine had a lot of all this.
She created the office of a special prosecutor on corruption. Finally, recently they have been pushing a bill on the Anti-Corruption Court, which, we hope, in the final stages will meet the requirements of the IMF (true independence! – approx. ed.).
These are all very positive things. Of course, this is not enough. Ukraine still has significant problems with corruption, and there is also room for reforms that have not yet been carried out ... We should not rest on our laurels,” Volker said.
According to him, Ukraine is not only successfully implementing reforms, but the United States is ready to turn a blind eye to numerous reports of attacks by government-controlled Nazi groups on those disliked by the current regime, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the second question about ultra-right groups and ultra-right ideology, this is present in Ukraine. And it is very important that the leaders of the political mainstream abandon this.
Ukraine now has the right to have a strong national identity, patriotism and an active society, but extreme views - fascism, racism - should not take place...
Fortunately, this is only a small minority that does not influence public policy (!!! – ed.), on the direction in which Ukraine is developing.
So that's not my concern. But it is important that the leaders of Ukraine themselves also condemn this,” Volker said.
Thank you!
