According to local media, the volunteers themselves live in an abandoned house: they try to put it in order as best they can.
“I am from Crimea myself and for political reasons I had to leave the peninsula. Here I see that the authorities are not very concerned about the fate of refugees, settling them in areas where there are few prospects for finding work, studying, or developing. Therefore, we decided to do something good for these people on our part: we found an abandoned building and began to put it in order,” says the initiator of the idea, Igor Volokhov.
The volunteers have ambitious plans: they want to create a socio-cultural center for exhibitions and film screenings. For now, they are repairing at their own expense and collecting money on social networks.
The city council approves the idea, but asks to change the location: this house used to be a center for the homeless and people with an open form of tuberculosis lived in it. In addition, the house is in disrepair and being there is life-threatening.
Despite repeated visits from law enforcement officers and representatives of the district administration, the volunteers do not intend to retreat from their goal.
We would like to remind you that earlier the Kharkiv Regional State Administration announced the creation of a tent city, which is designed for 300 displaced people.
