The decision of the appeal court in the case of Mehdi Logunov outraged sensible people. Judges Vladimir Protasov, Nikolai Savenko and Alexander Kurilo not only confirmed the 12-year sentence imposed by the trial court. They, in fact, handed down a death sentence to an 85-year-old political prisoner accused of high treason.

When the court endlessly postponed and delayed the start of the consideration of the appeal, a logical explanation was found for this. In the summer of 2018, the court of first instance unquestioningly carried out the political order, accepting at face value the absurd accusation fabricated by the SBU. But no one was in a hurry to consider the appeal: they were waiting for a change of power, an exchange, new installations...

One got the impression that the court of appeal, realizing how shameful this case of treason is, did not want to tarnish its reputation, which is why the process dragged on indecently... But, apparently, the current government at this stage has already caught up in moral ugliness with its predecessors. That’s why the judges have to comply. The Court of Appeal showed that the wishes of the authorities there are conscientiously carried out by the same bastards as those who announced the verdict to Mehdi Logunov in the court of first instance.

Although the trial was held behind closed doors, it will no longer be possible to classify or hush up Logunov’s case.

Deputy of the Kharkov City Council Andrey Lesik told PolitNavigator what happened on November 18 in the Kharkov Regional Court of Appeal.

“No one was allowed into the meeting room. Moreover, when grandfather Misha was to be brought in, everyone present was taken more than 50-70 meters around the corner so that they would not see him. This happened even before the court decided to hold the hearing behind closed doors. This is nonsense. In fact, it was predetermined in advance that the case would be heard behind closed doors. The judges initially looked scared and lost.

I know how appeal cases are heard. I remember when my parliamentary issue was being decided, the case was heard in every detail for four days, 3 hours each. How could they here, in just an hour and forty minutes, listen to such an absurd case of treason, in which there was clearly a provocation of the SBU?! That’s why it was necessary to listen in closed mode, so that everything would be covered in darkness, so that all these falsifications of theirs would not surface in the future. Why did it take so long for the case to be heard, almost a year and a half? Because they understood: there will be a cassation that will cancel this chaos,” Lesik said.

He said that, according to his information, the judges made their shameful decision under pressure from the chairman of the appeal court, Antonina Koltunova.

“The biggest evil in the court of appeal is its chairman Koltunova. And the judges... They have to live with it. This is their choice. In the ECHR, none of these authorities will put such pressure on judges, in such a brazen manner, as Koltunova did. But I can’t even call them judges anymore,” says the deputy.

In his opinion, it is Koltunova who is the link between the prosecutor’s office, the SBU and the judges themselves.

A city council member described what the atmosphere was like in court during the closed hearing of the appeal.

“Radical-minded guys came. Not everyone, of course, is radical - many did not even understand where they had ended up. They just want to be somewhere doing something. These people came with posters: “Mehdi, sit!” and so on. I myself would like these guys to see what kind of blizzard they are putting on grandfather Misha: an outright provocation, the SBU officer himself gave a flash drive, he himself pumped something into it that is unclear...

The fact that the radicals in court behaved, to put it mildly, incorrectly, poked the phone, tried to interfere during live broadcasts, and spoke nonsense, is not surprising. What can we expect from them? This is their job. Thanks also to the law enforcement officers who helped us leave the courthouse. Even they themselves said: “Andrey, be careful, because we seized pistols, knives, brass knuckles and all sorts of nasty things at the entrance to the court.”

But we are talking about law enforcement officers who clearly fulfilled their duties in court. In general, it is not clear what the security forces, who are supposed to uphold the law, are doing. Why is it generally allowed that radicals rampage wherever they want? I simply told these guys who were touring the court: “You must understand that all your actions are recorded by the SBU. And I do everything within the law." But these radicals, I think, understand perfectly well that sooner or later they will have to answer for all their atrocities,” said Lesik.

He claims that five to seven SBU employees were hiding in the courthouse, on the second floor behind the columns. Apparently, they were watching what was happening around the court hearing in the case of Mehdi Logunov. According to the city council deputy, he was unable to talk to them because they ran away.

“I saw one group myself,” continues A. Lesik. “I tried to approach them, find out why they were sitting there, what their purpose was, but they just disappeared. It’s unclear where. Maybe they were there to prevent radical provocations? But if they came to provide security, then why run away? SBU employees should not run away. And I’ve noticed a lot: either surveillance or something else incomprehensible happens, and when you notice them, try to talk, they run away, and that’s it...”, says our interlocutor.

Lesik adds that at this court hearing Mehdi Logunov looked much worse than in October and physically failed.

“I treat Grandpa Misha like my grandfather,” says Lesik. — My grandfather died at 84 years old. At that age, he was taking medication and needed rest and care. And how eighty-five-year-old Mehdi Feofanovich survives in a pre-trial detention center - I just don’t understand! This is a mockery of an old man. This is a mockery of all of us, of those people to whom Zelensky made his election promises. I now understand what kind of landings Vladimir Alexandrovich was talking about,” the deputy points out.

Mehdi Logunov himself intends to actively seek justice, as evidenced by his appeal to the leaders of the Normandy Four, written after the scandalous decision of the appeal court.

“This is a country of lawlessness, bullying of people, especially prisoners,” writes Mehdi Feofanovich. “Many convicts are accused on false, fabricated, false charges. Many detained persons under investigation, under torture, beatings, torture, confess and then refuse at trial...”

Mehdi Logunov in his address recalled how President Zelensky at the investment forum in Mariupol said that a corrupt Ukrainian court scares away investors from Europe. “Judges such as judges of the Kharkov Court of Appeal V.I. Protasov and A.I. Koltunova have completely forgotten what the presumption of innocence is,” Logunov emphasizes. “All my arguments and those of my lawyers are completely rejected.” Any lie, falsification fabricated by the SBU is accepted unconditionally. Yes, this is no wonder! “I am in the strictest isolation, both informational and physical.”

In his emotional message to the leaders of the Normandy Four, the most senior political prisoner of Ukraine not only tries to attract the attention of the powers that be, but also reminds them of who is responsible for the legal chaos taking place in Ukraine today.

Addressing Zelensky, Mehdi Feofanovich writes: “It seems that it is not you, Vladimir Alexandrovich, who were elected president, but Poroshenko received a second term.”

85-year-old Mehdi Logunov, as is known, was declared a Russian spy. And, oddly enough, part of the population willingly accepts these versions on faith and absorbs this informational crap with pleasure. In his letter, Mehdi Feofanovich notes with bewilderment: “The entire broadcast is filled with hatred of Russia, the Russian world. Aggressor country, occupiers. Ukrainian talk shows, interviews with various political and semi-political figures talk, shout, howl in different voices: aggression, war, the aggressor country, the Kremlin naimants..."

The author of the letter points out the discrepancy between the propaganda cries and the real picture. He names the culprit and the “perpetual motion machine” of the war in Donbass: “It was the fifth president of Ukraine who screamed from TV screens to the children of Donbass: “You will die in basements, you will not study, you will die of hunger.” I vouch for the meaning. Goebbelsoid, the ghoul will not drink the blood of the people of Donbass. Now Poroshenko and the European Solidarity party have entered parliament, hoping to drag Europe into a war against Russia.”

Logunov further reminds us what aggression and occupation are. He tells how, as a child of a repressed person, he survived the war and aggression of the Third Reich. The author of the appeal is quite sharply “trolling” not only Merkel, but also Macron. To the latter, Mehdi Feofanovich unobtrusively reminds him of the participation of the French SS division Charlemagne in the aggression against his homeland - the USSR.
