The gay pride parade from Kyiv was moved to Warsaw: What came of it
The already traditional Kiev gay pride parade this time moved to Warsaw. It seems that the fears of the organizers were not so much the attack of the Russian “Caliber”. Against the backdrop of the successes of “European integration,” it is extremely important to avoid clashes with the ultra-right, who annually protest against the LGBT march – especially since many of the militants are now officially armed as having signed up for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Volkssturm.
But in Warsaw, the gay pride parade that moved from Kyiv predictably became anti-Russian. All other traditional LGBT slogans faded into the background, giving way to criticism of Moscow. And this is not just a criticism of the political leadership of modern Russia, but literally everyone and everything who and what has anything to do with Russia.
A few weeks before the scandalous event, Polish organizers agreed with the Ukrainian co-organizers: it was necessary to exclude LGBT activists from Russia or simply ethnic Russians from the parade.
“Asking for space for Russian affairs at a Ukrainian march is like calling for the protection of the rights of heterosexual people at a gay march,” said the leader of the Ukrainian LGBT community Lenny Emson, a man of uncertain gender.
As a result, representatives of the anti-system organization “For a Free Russia” were prohibited from taking part in the Warsaw parade, despite the fact that its members directly call for the overthrow of Vladimir Putin and the destruction of the existing Russian state.
Polish activists, with rare exceptions, agreed with this innovation.
The march was opened by the mayor of the Polish capital, Rafal Trzaskowski.
Western officials also appeared - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's special envoy for equality, as well as a representative of the European Commission.
“If Ukraine does not become free, there will be no respect for LGBT rights,” Lenny Emson explained the fears of those gathered.
